A Special Show
Though we meet every day in the school and study together , we know little about what our classmates do in their free time. In order to make us understand each other better, our class held a special show of our spare-time hobbies on May 21. We named the show Spring's Call.
Everyone in our class took great interest in this show. We brought things made or ourselves to the school. There were lots of pictures, such as watercolour paintings, traditional Chinese paintings and sketches①. Some of them were so well-done② that people in the painting looked like real. There were works of penmanship③ and stamps, too. The beautiful stamps attracting our attention were from the U.S.A, Great Britain, Canada, Egypt and many other countries. The handiworks④on show were very exquisite⑤. We were all attracted by some small ancient Chinese weapons, such as swords, broadswords⑥.Two of them just like the broadswords used by Zhang Fei and Guan Yu, the senior generals in the Three Kingdoms. All these weapons were made of thick wire. They were praised by every visitor.
Through the show, we have known the strong points of others, especially we have seen something new and wonderful. We all hope we can hold another show in the near future.
a gray sweater hung limply1 on tommy’s empty desk, a reminder of the dejected2 boy who had just followed his classmates from our third-grade room. soon tommy’s parents, who had recently separated, would arrive for a conference on his failing schoolwork and disruptive3 behavior. neither parent knew that i had summoned the other.
tommy, an only child, had always been happy, cooperative and an ecellent student. how could i convince his father and mother that his recent failing grades represented a broken-hearted child’s reaction to his adored parents’ separation and pending4 divorce﹖
tommy’s mother entered and took one of the chairs i had placed near my desk. soon the father arrived. good! at least they were concerned enough to be prompt. a look of surprise and irritation passed between them, and then they pointedly ignored each other.
as i gave a detailed account of tommy’s behavior and schoolwork, i prayed for the right words to bring these two together, to help them see what they were doing to their son. but somehow the words wouldn’t come. perhaps if they saw one of his smudged5, carelessly done papers.
i found a crumpled6 tear-stained sheet stuffed in the back of his desk, an english paper. writing covered both sides -- not the assignment, but a single sentence scribbled7 over and over.
silently i smoothed it out and gave it to tommy’s mother. she read it and then without a word handed it to her husband. he frowned. then his face softened. he studied the scrawled words for what seemed an eternity.
at last he folded the paper carefully, placed it in his pocket, and reached for his wife’s outstretched hand. she wiped the tears from her eyes and smiled up at him. my own eyes were brimming, but neither seemed to notice. he helped her with her coat and they left together.
in his own way god had given me the words to reunite that family. he had guided me to the sheet of yellow copy paper covered with the anguished8 outpouring of a small boy’s troubled heart.
the words, “dear mom ... dear daddy ... i love you ... i love you ... i love you.”

In present-day China, fast food is so popular, especially among children and teenagers, that it can be seen in every big and medium-sized city. It’s even difficult to think of any other single thing that represents the fast pace of modern society in the way that fast food does. Some people think it is very convenient and saves a lot of time. The trends of modern society seem to all point to one ultimate goal—saving time, and fast food well serves this purpose. In their opinions, its popularity is also attributed to the restaurants’ clean and cozy environment, excellent service, and guaranteed quality of food and drinks.
However, others maintain that fast food is usually low in nutrition and can’t be regarded as a balanced diet. For example, doctors suggest that people, especially children, eat fast food as little as possible. Besides, although cooking at home is time-consuming and the following washing-up tiresome, it offers healthy and delicious meals your body needs and likes.
As far as I’m concerned, fast food is not my best choice. For one thing, I prefer traditional spicy Chinese food. For another, being engaged in the work all day, I may spend one or two hours to prepare my favorite dishes to ensure myself a nice rest. As a result, fast food is only a good choice when I am in a hurry and resort to it once in a while.

I bet most of you guys have come across such situation, when you go shopping and buy something, you find there is something wrong with the product after you buy it, you want the manager to compensate for you, but the manager refuse to. Though you are angry, there is nothing you can do. As a consumer, we need to protect our rights, when we find the products are not conformed with specifications, we have the right to ask for compensation. The consumers’ rights are legal and protected by the laws, March 15 is International Day for Consumers’ Rights and Interests, it pays special attention to the consumers, it reminds consumers of their rights. If consumers find the shops are cheating customers, they can call the police and protect their rights. So when we buy products, we need to have the conscious that our consumers’ rights are protected by law.
Recently, the Ministry of Education has drafted a reform about English, it is said that English will be not the subject that take into account of the College Entrance Exam, a lot of students feel excited, because they think English will not be their burden.
The reform may relieve some students who are week in English, they think they don’t need to spend so much time in learning English, because English is not important any more. The fact is that they get the wrong idea, English still important even though it will be no more considered to be the College Entrance Exam. The trend is people learning English since they are young, parents pay special attention to the children’s second language, so most students now are good at English. What’s more, English is the most widely used language, it can enhance a student’s competition. So English is still important to learn.
As the development of the media, there are more and more children get famous. These children need to go to school while they also take part in the social activities. Some schools refuse to accept the little celebrities to attend the class, because they will have the bad effect other students. In my opinion, celebrities also have the right to go to school.
Though the celebrities have money and fame, they are also the ordinary ones in the school. They are the same age with the students and they need to study to improve themselves. Some parents worry about their kids will be affected by the celebrities and can’t focus their minds on study. Maybe the students will be curious at first, but in the long time, they will get used to it and then will treat the celebrities as the normal students. The students can also have the chance to communicate with the stars and have the better understand what the stars look like personally.
So there is no need to refuse the celebrities to attend the class. Students just need to get used to it and then treat the stars equally.
