Properties: Tape-recorder, Some pictures of Bill Gates
Teaching aims:
1. Knowledge aim
Students should be able to read the text and answer questions correctly, and also grasp the new words and useful expressions.
2. Ability aim
Students should say something about Bill Gates in their own words.
3. Emotion aim
Try to study hard and work hard.
Language focus:
1. Background of Bill Gates.
2. New words and useful expressions: learn from sb. be born, grow up, in the future, start to do sth. at that time, lots of.
3. Object clause.
Teaching procedures:
a) Organizing the class
Greetings and a duty report.
b) Revision
1. Dictate the words learnt.
2. Translate some sentences:
(1)他是年級中最聰明的學(xué)生之一。
(2)那些衣服每周被洗一次。
(3)看起來好象要下雨了。
(4)她曾經(jīng)對故事書很感興趣。
Keys:
(1) He’s one of the cleverest students in the grade.
(2) Those clothes are washed once a week.
(3) It seems to be going to rain.
(4) She was interested in story books.
c) Leading-in
T: We’ve known something about Bill Gates. Who can us a brief introduction of him? Help students to give the correct information.
T: Today we’re going to learn more about him.
d) Explanations of some language points

We should learn from Lucy because she works hard and always helps others.
2. grow up
When I grow up, I’ll be a tour guide.
4. in the future
We’ll have better life in the future.
5. start to do sth.
He started to drive only at 15.

The boy worked out the maths problems himself.
e) Discussion in groups
Students talk about Bill Gates and express their own ideas.
Here are some questions for discussion:
1. What can we learn from Bill Gates?
2. What do you think of him?
3. Do you want to be a person like Bill Gates? Why or why not?
4. If you were Bill Gates, what will you do?
f) Homework
1. To make sentences with the phrases given and make it a short story: grow up, in the future, start to, in the end, enjoy doing
2. To retell the article
3. Do exercises on page 110.
g) Summary
Change the sentences into passive voice:
1. They clean the house once a week.
2. Someone broke the window.
3. The postman opens the money tomorrow.
4. Someone has stolen my bike.
5. They will pay the money tomorrow.
6. They have repaired that car.
Keys:
1. The house is cleaned once a week.
2. The window was broken.
3. The letter-box is opened twice a day.
4. My bike has been stolen.
5. The money will be paid tomorrow.
